About Sustainable Development
Sustainable development can be a difficult concept to understand. What we do know is that, in Northern Ireland, we cannot keep consuming at our current rate. Consumers need to understand how the choices they make have an impact on the planet and learn how to make responsible choices that meet our needs today without limiting the choices of future generations.
About This Project
The aim of the ecoworld project is to develop young people’s awareness and understanding of the implications for the individual, society, the economy and environment in the areas of energy, waste and water. Also, we hope it will educate young people on the management of natural resources, independent living and environmental responsibility and encourage responsible choices and informed decision-making. The online and classroom resources are aligned with the following Areas of Learning: World Around Us and Environment and Society.
The Consumer Council
The Consumer Council is a non-departmental public body (NDPB) established through the General Consumer Council (Northern Ireland) Order 1984. Our principal statutory duty is to promote and safeguard the interests of consumers in Northern Ireland.
The Consumer Council has specific statutory duties in relation to energy, postal services, transport, and water and sewerage. These include considering consumer complaints and enquiries, carrying out research and educating and informing consumers.
About CCEA
The Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) was established on 1 April 1994 and is a non-departmental public body reporting to the Department of Education in Northern Ireland. CCEA places itself at the heart of the Northern Ireland community ensuring its products and services meet the needs of all learners.
